Emotional anniversary programme
The audience will experience personal premieres this year. For the mezzo-soprano, this year's anniversary is reason enough to include highlights from past concerts in her program, as well as arias she has never sung before. Among these personal premieres will be "Vissi d ́arte" from "Tosca," one of Giacomo Puccini's most challenging and famous arias. Elina Garanca is especially pleased to include this one, in which the opera's title character sings an intimate monologue in the midst of Scarpia's threat, in the program for the first time.
For the special occasion, Karel Mark Chichon, who will once again serve as musical director, has also once again put together a medley. Entitled "Around the World" it combines popular songs from around the world, including "My Way" and "New York, New York", both of which became evergreens primarily through Frank Sinatra. In addition, there are Austrian favorites such as "Meine Lippen, sie küssen so heiß" from "Giuditta" as well as the Vilja song from "Die lustige Witwe," both ear-pleasers from the operettas of Franz Lehár.
