Elīna Garančas debut as Amneris
The Latvian star soprano, who had promised to make something special for this anniversary, did not disappoint her fans. For the 10th birthday of "Klassik unter Sternen" in Göttweig, almost 4,500 fans could hear two world premières: Garanca's debut as Princess Amneris from Aida and as Princess Eboli from Don Carlo.
Prominent musical guests, an opulent choir, opera highlights and a famous medley
Together with Elīna Garanča, the Italian Kammersängerin and soprano Barbara Frittoli and the Korean star tenor Alfred Kim contested the biggest part of the concert. In addition, Brazilian baritone Rodolfo Giugliani, the Slovakian tenor Martin Mikuš, as well as the Latvian bass Rihards Mačanovskis, have been commemorated by the international press. Together with the choir of the Opera of the Slovak National Theater and the Symphonieorchestra of the Wiener Volksoper, the soloists presented the anniversary programme, which was designed by the artistic director Karel Mark Chichon with great attention to detail. Up to 120 artists were on the stage at the same time.
In addition to Verdis Aida were famous and popular arias, among others. From Carmen, La Traviata, Cavalleria Rusticana, Turandot, Otello, Don Carlo and Andrea Chénier. The crowning conclusion was a wonderful medley of well - known melodies performed by Garanča and all her guests, from Tonight to Caminito, Matinatta, La vie en rose, Vienna and Vienna, only you alone, to O sole mio - a Medley Famous three tenors first sung in 1990 with a legendary audience success at the Caracalla Spa in Rome. At the traditional "Ave Maria" in Göttweig, the weatherlights in the distance formed a magical setting to the last bars of the music.
