A tribute to Maria Callas and Giacomo Puccini

This year, the world of opera will be celebrating two important anniversaries that will be honoured in the upcoming Classic Summer: The influence of Giacomo Puccini, the Italian master of melody and emotion, on the world of opera is obvious. On the 100th anniversary of his death, he will be given a special presence in the programme. At the same time, the 100th birthday of Maria Callas will also be retrospectively celebrated. Her attention to detail and artistic dedication have made her a legend around the world.

Personal premiere for Elīna Garanča
Maria Callas was particularly famous for her interpretations of Giacomo Puccini's operas and both icons will therefore be honoured with a very special premiere: Elīna Garanča will perform the touching aria "O ma lyre immortelle" from Gounod's opera "Sapho" for the first time in the impressive setting of Göttweig.
